In December of 2008, the first meeting of the
newly formed Beroa Chimney Safety Committee (BCSC)
was held at Karrena GmbH Headquarters in Ratingen,
Germany. Representatives from Karrena GmbH, Karrena
International, Altac, Chimney Refractory International
(CRI) and Bierrum were present. Dr. Johannes Nöthen,
Karrena GmbH, hosted the event.
Health & Safety Representatives from each chimney
contractor under the Beroa Group are working together
to formulate standardized safety practices, regulations
and training programs. The Committee has developed
a pre-qualification document for sub contractors
as well as a statement that subcontractors must
acknowledge and commit to working towards a zero
injury workplace when working on a Beroa job site.
A quarterly report will be issued by the BCSC
summarizing reportable injuries and a Total Incident
Rate per company as well as the groups’ chimney
division collectively. Upon issue of this quarterly
report, the committee will discuss root causes
of any injuries and corrective actions that may
be put into place to prevent future incidents
of the same nature.

Future goals of the committee would be to provide
each contractor with safety and health plans which
are in compliance with various national laws and
regulations and to set up standardized training
programs. The committee is planning their next
formal meeting in September, 2009. |
